Amelia Island Wood Art by Nick Deonas
A Little Info ABOUT Nick |
Nick Deonas, a native of Amelia Island has never lived anywhere else.
Nick grew up in the boat building business of his father, working in wood from his early childhood. His love of wood has grown over the years, although he no longer builds large shrimp boats, he will on occasion build a small boat at special request. His attention today is in the art of wood turning. He has designed many custom pens and art pieces over the years and is now offering them through this site. Most of the wood that is used is from Amelia Island, every piece will have information on the type of wood, where and when it was harvested. His work has sold in fine jewelry stores and at retail art establishments and now he would rather be turning wood art then checking on his items for sale, he finds marketing on the world wide web to be easier and allows more time for his love of creating. If you are looking for that special one of a kind gift and would like to give a piece of Amelia Island then look no further. If you have a special request that you would like to discuss with Nick simply give him a call, 904-753-4077 Please enjoy our site. |
Short Story |
My grandfather, Mike Tiliakos came to Fernandina in 1912 from Greece, he started repairing boats and building boats. He met my grandmother, Cynthia Clara Franks, they married and had three children. Nick, Johnny and Anna. After my grandfathers death his two son's continued the boat building and shrimping business.
In 1941 my father, Demetrios (Jimmy) Deonas came to Fernandina from Santorini Greece and started building boats. Dad passed away in 1969, I continued building boats until 1972. I really didn't know anything but woodworking from a very early age. Today I still love working in wood but I especially love creating new and different items. |
